National Safety Month: Fall Prevention

Every year, we celebrate National Safety Month in June. This year to celebrate we want to focus on fall prevention and relay some tips that can be helpful in preventing falls and minimizing risk. Here at SkyBlue, we have come up with three ways to aid in fall prevention. Stay safe by using these tips:

  1. Get involved in daily exercise or an exercise program. Being active is good for bodies of all ages, but especially for seniors. A consistent exercise program builds strength and stability, and will result in an overall healthier body. This will reduce risk and potential injury one may experience from a serious fall.

  1. Review your medications. It is important to routinely review the medications that you have been prescribed and are still actively taking. Some medications can cause side effects that increase the risk of falling, such as dizziness or dehydration. Therefore, it is important to keep track of the medications you are taking and how often you are taking them.

  2. Make sure your home is safe. Ensuring that your home is both safe and functional is a key way to prevent falls within the home. Doing things such as making sure there is adequate lighting or rails on all stairways are a few examples of safety precautions one can take in their home.
