Arthritis Awareness Month: Tips for Battling Arthritis

May is Arthritis Awareness month, making it a perfect time to educate people on what having arthritis entails and how to battle it. Being one of the most common conditions in the United States, it affects one in four adults. This is a statistic that most people are unaware of and one that can be shocking to people who aren’t as familiar with this condition. Here are a few things you can do to battle arthritis:

  1. In fighting arthritis, participating in physical activity is extremely important. Daily exercise is a great way to strengthen one’s joints and muscles, that may otherwise may be relatively weak. Overall strength will result from regular exercise, as well as improving one’s energy levels. Some form of exercise is essential when dealing with arthritis and its symptoms.

  1. To stay as healthy as possible, feed your body the nutrients it needs. Focus on eating a well balanced diet and start making healthier food choices whenever you can. Knowing which foods are good for your body and which are not, and making those changes can really go a long way. For inflammatory types of arthritis specifically, eating anti inflammatory foods can make a big difference as well. Help your body the best it can be!

  1. Using hot and cold therapy is another alternative that can improve your arthritis symptoms, allowing for symptom relief. Both hot and cold therapy supplies can help someone battling arthritis in their own ways. Using heat therapy can assist in increase blood flow and relax muscles. On the other hand, cold therapy can reduce swelling and slow inflammatory chemicals. Both of these types of therapy can soothe joint pain and provide overall pain relief.

While there is no cure for most types of arthritis, we hope that we can reduce pain and allow your battle with arthritis to be a more comfortable one! This takes commitment from you, and you owe it to yourself to fight arthritis so that you can live a stronger life!
